Barrington, IL is located a little over half an hour northwest of Chicago and is an affluent suburban village in Cook and Lake County. It is home to just under 7,000 residents, with an average age of 44. Education in Barrington is phenomenal and schools are ranked highly according to greatschools.org; most fall into the 9 or 10 rating system. Some of the best schools are Hough Street Elementary School, Grove Avenue Elementary School and Roslyn Road Elementary School.
Although there are several elementary schools in the city, these schools are intended for students between the grades of PK and 5th grade. There is one dedicated high school and a separate middle school for kids in 6th through 8th grade.
Barrington Community Unit School District 220 services the entire city which is over 72 square miles. There are roughly 9,000 students in the district from pre-k through 12th grade. The majority of teachers in District 220 have received their Master’s degree or higher and 40 have earned the President’s award for Excellence in Teaching Math and Science.
The district is also often rated in the top 5% of the state’s school districts and has been named among the 600 top high schools in the nation. The elementary schools received the 2008 Academic Excellence Award and high school students average an average composite score of 25 on the ACT, which is 4 points higher than both the state and the national averages. According to education statistics over 60% of residents who are 18 and older have graduated with a bachelor’s degree or higher, which is 18 % higher than that of the rest of the county.
Barrington is a great place to raise a family and the majority or residents are young to middle aged families.
